Privacy & Cookies Policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026.
Who we are
ScribbleScrabble (scribblescrabble.co.uk) is a free word-game utility website. This policy explains what data is collected when you use it, and how cookies and similar technologies are used, including by Google as a third-party advertising partner.
What data we collect
We don't require you to create an account or submit personal details to use any tool on this site. The data that is collected comes from three sources:
- Standard hosting logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical information for every visit — IP address, browser type, and request timing — for security, fraud prevention and performance purposes.
- Local storage on your device. We save your UK/US dictionary preference in your browser's local storage so it's remembered as you move between pages. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
- Third-party services you interact with. When you use the Definitions tool, the word you enter is sent directly from your browser to the Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch a definition. When any page loads, your browser also requests font files from Google Fonts, which involves your IP address being visible to Google as part of that request.
Cookies & advertising
This site displays adverts served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads and measure their performance, which may include personalising ads based on your browsing activity.
If you're visiting from the UK, EEA or Switzerland, you'll be shown a consent banner before any personalised advertising cookies are set, letting you consent, decline, or manage your choices in detail. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the consent record in your browser's cookie settings and reloading the site.
For more detail on how Google uses data when you use our site, see How Google uses information from sites that use our services.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to ask what data is held about you, request corrections, request deletion, and object to certain processing. Since this site doesn't hold accounts or personal profiles, most requests will relate to the advertising cookies described above — you can control these directly via the consent banner or your browser settings. For anything else, you can contact us at hello@scribblescrabble.co.uk.
Children's privacy
This site is a general-audience word reference tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the tools we use or legal requirements. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version.
